The Great
Rubber Stopper Dilemma
- You are a Biology teacher who is trying to set up some
apparatus that requires rubber stoppers, glass tubing and
thermometers. One of these is to demonstrate the
difference between inhaled and exhaled air, while the other
is an experiment to generate and collect carbon dioxide
gas.
- Some of the rubber stoppers that you need are old and have
pieces of glass tubing stuck in them. Some of the
glass tubes are quite long and you need to remove them since
you do not have any other stoppers of the right size and you
want to do this experiment tomorrow.
- How would you safely remove the glass tubing and insert thermometers and the correct tubing in the stoppers?
