*Information Assistants are the first tier of information assistance at the library. You must completely assume that during the course of a typical day you will be asked a multitude of questions, many more indeed than you could possibly answer.

*You will know the answers to most questions, but there are a vast amount of answers that you will not know. Please do not fret; many of the answers you will ascertain only after consultation with a peer assistant, colleague, or library administator.

*This page is an attempt to answer some of the more quotidian questions that you will confront .

Can I Refund Students' Money?

Unfortunately, every now and again, a machine will eat a student's money. Students are entitled to a full refund of the monies that they have "lost" in a machine, however, they must fill out a form and leave it with you. Their money will be converted to a copy card with the amount they lost which should be ready for pick-up a week after students fill out the refund form. Continental Copy, the company that maintains our copiers, leaves several complimentary copy cards at our disposal every week; please use these judiciously.

When Can I Take a Break?

The Preference is for IAs to take breaks after the second IA arrives. However, ensure that you do not work more than five consecutive hours without taking at least a half-hour break. In addition, your timesheet may not reflect more than five consecutive hours before a half hour break is taken.
