1. What is ACE?
ACE is an accelerated baccalaureate curriculum for highly motivated adults 25 years and older who have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Foreign high school equivalencies are also accepted.
2. What is Life Achievement Evaluation?
Applying for credits for any notable prior learning gained through work and/or outside interests which can be shown to be the equivalent to college-level learning in an area included in the Queens College curriculum. There are no fees or charges for any aspect of applying. The maximum number of credits that you can earn through “life achievement” evaluation is 36.
3. How much does it cost for degree students to attend Queens College?
New York State Residents
Degree – $195 per credit
Non-degree – $285 per credit
Non-Residents
Degree – $415 per credit
Non-degree – $610 per credit
4. Are ACE students eligible for financial aid?
Financial aid is available to qualified full-time and part-time students. The Office is located at Jefferson Hall, Room 202 and the phone no. is (718) 997-5100.
5. What are the major components of the ACE student’s curriculum?
There are 4 major components. Basic ACE Seminars which are a series of interdisciplinary seminars in the arts, sciences, and social sciences, which fulfill most of the college’s entry-level distribution requirements; Evaluation of prior learning for Life Achievement credits; The academic major; and Elective courses.
6. Will I have help planning my academic schedule?
Academic advisors are available to students at convenient times. Nancy Casey is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Other academic advisors are available on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Academic advisors are skilled in helping students plan schedules that meet individual needs. 7. What is the policy on transfer credits?
Transfer of credit will be considered for liberal arts courses completed at an accredited, degree-granting U. S. institution with a minimum grade of C- (or any passing grade from a CUNY college). A maximum of 75 transfer credits may be counted toward the 120 required for graduation.
8. When do the classes take place?
In evening and weekend classes, ACE students are offered a personally rewarding education that also provides a secure foundation for career advancement and for graduate and professional study. The academic departments that offer evening majors include accounting, economics, mathematics, sociology, psychology, and urban studies. Flexible scheduling, with some day and evening courses, offers the possibility of earning a degree in most other majors.
9. What are the requirements for acceptance into ACE?
Candidates for the ACE program need to apply directly to Queens College with either a freshman or transfer application. The application fee for freshmen is $65 and the fee for transfers is $70. Student must request official transcripts from their high school and any college previously attended. If applicable, SAT, ACT and/or GED scores should be remitted. 10. How long will it take to complete my Bachelor’s degree?
Completion of the Bachelor of Science or the Bachelor of Arts degree depends on the student. 120 credits are required to complete a Bachelor’s degree. There is a 45-credit minimum residency requirement (courses taken in residence at Queens College). The number of courses taken each semester, the number of credits available through Life Achievement and the number of transferable credits all determine the length of time needed to complete a degree.
