Welcome to Our Program from the MFA Director

Welcome to Queens College, The City University of New York, MFA Program in Creative Writing and Literary Translation!

Our program is new—we are now entering its second year—and has galvanized the energies of students and faculty alike. We are proud to be the latest MFA program in the City University of New York system and the only one in the borough of Queens.  We offer an MFA that is inexpensive and innovative in its approach.

We offer degrees in poetry, fiction, playwriting and literary translation.  Our faculty is composed of committed teachers who are all active, award-winning writers.  Each of us encourages our students to take risks in their craft and exercise a central role in building their writing community.

The MFA at Queens College offers several features that distinguish it from other programs around the country, including a diverse faculty and student body, an alliance with a professional theater company in New York City, a certificate in English language teaching and a commitment to fostering widely divergent and varied kinds of writing.

In workshops, literature classes and salon-style readings, we both challenge and nurture students. Students are exposed to a wide variety of writing styles, perspectives and forms through our reading and speaker series. And, finally, our proximity to Manhattan allows us to partner with literary centers and expand the literary life beyond the grassy lawns of our campus.

We’ve launched our program with remarkable success, and we look forward to a thriving future!
