A Message from Dean Tom StrekasWelcome to the Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Queens College-City University of New York. There has probably been no period of time when the need for an understanding of science and mathematics was more critical. With genetic engineering in medicine and in our foods, continued space exploration, need for alternative energy sources, the pervasive presence of computer technology, increasing threats to our environment, the challenge of understanding the human mind, and our ever shrinking global community, it is clear that the need for increased awareness by the public grows stronger each day. The challenge is taken up by our eight departments composed of a world-class faculty. Our undergraduate and graduate students alike are afforded opportunities to get to know these faculty members, in the classroom, the laboratory and in the field. Additionally, there are few regions in the world where more opportunities exist for individuals interested in science and mathematics than in metropolitan New York City.
If you are contemplating an academic home for your undergraduate or graduate degree, details of our programs can be found on our various departmental web sites. Information on other programs such as our Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) sponsored programs in biological sciences education, our Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) opportunities and our Alliance for Minority Participation (AMP) program in Science, Engineering and Mathematics, can be obtained through links on this page. Please take the time to explore our web site to gain an appreciation of who we are and what we do, and how you might be a part of the excitement.
