The Graduate Programs in Special Education (GPSE) are accredited by the New York State Education Department and have been awarded exemplary status by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Council for Exceptional Children. GPSE prepare candidates for a Master of Science in Education degree. Typically, upon acceptance to the GPSE, candidates teach in general or special education settings and hold Initial Certification from the New York State Education Department (NYSED) in general or special education in the age-range of their GPSE program.

Upon program completion, graduates are eligible for NYSED professional certification in special education and professional certification in their respective general education area (i.e., the area in which they held initial certification).
