Welcome
Welcome to the Offices of Teacher Certification, Clinical Experiences, and Career Placement; and Title II Reporting
Teacher Certification Office: New York State Certification is the primary credential needed to teach anywhere in New York State including New York City.
Upon completion of a Queens College New York State registered education program, the Institution is able to recommend individuals for New York State Certification in various subject teaching specializations as well as pupil personnel and school leadership programs.
Clinical Experiences Office: An integral part of all Queens College Education Programs is student teaching or clinical experiences. Clinical experiences offer the candidates opportunities to observe with and interact with diverse student populations in a variety of settings. Candidates get a chance to connect theoretical and practice models of teaching and enable the candidate to reflect on their decision to become teachers and other school professionals.
It is an opportunity wherein candidates can practice and demonstrate their knowledge of discipline specific competencies; learning and development; families and urban communities; diversity and inclusion: democracy and social justice; language and literacy; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and the use of technology in the learning environment.
The Clinical Experiences Office places candidates in clinical experiences and student teaching for Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, and Educational and Community Programs.
Title II Reporting: Title II refers to one of the laws in the Higher Education Amendment of 1998. As part of the federal reporting requirements of Title II, Section 207, of the Higher Education Act, pass rate data on the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE's) must be reported for each professional teacher preparation program in New York State (see charts embedded within this website).
Each institution is required to provide data for program completers (candidates who have completed a state-approved teacher preparation program). This data is compared with NES (National Evaluation System) testing records, and a Program Completer Matching Report. An Annual Institutional Report is generated yearly for the institution and the NYSED (New York State Education Department). Comparison of these reports establishes the institutions passing percentages on the Liberal Arts and Science Tests (LAST), the Assessment of Teaching Skills - Written (ATS-W), and the Content Specialty Tests (CST's) for the teacher preparations programs at Queens College.
