Aesthetic Education: Expanding the Notions of Excellence in K-18 Learning Communities

The Equity Studies Research Center's 2nd Annual National Conference entitled Aesthetic Education: Expanding Notions of Excellence in K-18 Learning Communities, will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007. In collaboration with the Lincoln Center Institute (LCI), the one-day conference will explore aesthetic education from the LCI perspective. Through a range of presentations including experiential workshops, roundtables, panel discussions and research papers, participants will explore what is meant by “excellence in education” and examine its impact within schools and in the larger educational communities. Participants will also be treated to a variety of works of art, including a visually stunning production of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen, as performed by the Hudson Vagabond Puppets. Maxine Greene, a pioneer in the area of aesthetic education, will be the keynote speaker. This day of exploration will conclude with a reception to allow participants to enjoy additional informal conversation and a poster session.

Below you will find the tentative outline of the conference day, session information, and a registration form. The deadline for submission of registration form and all fees for attendance has been extended to March 10, 2007.
