Institute of Library and Information Services (IMLS) Grant:

We are pleased to announce that in September 2008, the Institute of Library and Information Services (IMLS) awarded Dr. Marianne Cooper of the GSLIS a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program Grant entitled Archival Education At Queens College: Updating Knowledge Base; planning and curriculum building 2008/09. Dr. Benjamin Alexander will serve as Co-Project Director. The investigators will review the current archives and records management curriculum and certificate program of the GSLIS with the goal of infusing new breadth, depth and focus on digital issues while preserving the basic theories and values of the field. Recognizing the increasing importance of archives and the management and preservation of both digitally produced and digitized paper records, digital curation has become one of IMLS ' initiatives. The Institute is concerned that future generations of archivists be educated in these new developments so that they can successfully manage the millions of records created world-wide on an ongoing basis.
