Special Collections
In addition to the private papers and other archival materials that comprise the Queens College Archives, the Library maintains a collection of rare books and other special publications covering all subjects other than Art and Music.
The Collection, located on Level Six of the Rosenthal Library, may be available for on-site consultation and is serviced by the Art Library.
Special Collections
Our Special Collections materials, including unique and fragile books, journals and rare juvenile books, and Art Special Collection materials,which include rare art books, multivolume sets and fragile art journals as well as art theses, are listed in CUNY+.
Use the Command Search in CUNY+ to search for Special Collections materials specifically. Use the following codes:
- wcl=aspec for rare books/journals/theses in the Art special collection.
- wcl=spec for rare books/journals in the general special collection.
To further refine your search results, add a word or words to your search.
For example:
- wcl=spec and wrd=walt whitman will bring up our books by or about Walt Whitman located in the Special Collection room
- wcl=aspec and wrd=rubens will bring up our books about the artist Peter Paul Rubens located in the Art Special Collection room.
Books and journals in the Special Collection room are indicated by Queens-Special Collection Level 6 in the record's location field.
Books, journals and theses in the Art Special Collection room are indicated by Queens-Art Special Collection Level 6 in the record's location field.
Art Theses
To find art theses located in the Art Special Collection room, use the Guided Search in CUNY+.
Search queens college department of art and choose “yes” under phrase search.
Please note that a small number of art education theses NOT in the Art Special Collection room will turn up as well.
Books, journals and theses in the Art Special Collection room are indicated by Queens-Art Special Collection Level 6 in the record's location field.
