Many cultures believe an evil eye can cause injury or bad luck for the person at whom it is directed for reasons of envy or dislike. Attempts to ward off the curse of the evil eye have led to proliferation of talismans around the Mediterranean, especially in Turkey. Contemporary artists explore the Turkish Evil Eye and find commonality within their own culture.
Opening Reception Wednesday, May 2, 5–8 PM, Artists' Talks 6–7 PM

ART/LIFE: Site-Specific Installation by Leslie Shaw Zadoian
February 21 to December 31, 2012, at the Queens College Art Center (Benjamin S. Rosenthal Library, Level 6).
Zadoian's abstract artwork explores interactions of shape, line, color, texture, and space on canvas and beyond its borders. The installation addresses art and life as they coexist and collide in the artist's studio, and within the artist as sentient being.
Open Studio with Leslie Shaw Zadoian, Wednesday, February 22, 6–9 PM.

The Aaron Copland School of Music: Past, Present, and Future
The Music Library is excited to announce our inaugural exhibit The Aaron Copland School of Music: Past, Present, and Future. The exhibit, which will be on display for the entire academic year, includes:
- A recently acquired manuscript of a composition by Luigi Dallapiccola (donated by George Sturm, a Queens College alumni and former student of Dallapiccola)
- Artifacts related to the founding of the School of Music, the naming of the Aaron Copland School of Music, and the new Music Building
- Manuscripts, rare books, and other items by and from past and current faculty and alumni
- Programs, photos, costumes, and other memorabilia from past and current Aaron Copland School of Music concerts and productions
- Glimpses of the future of our recent graduates and current students
We are grateful to Elizabeth Keitel, widow of Claude Palisca (a Queens College graduate and renowned musicologist) for donating the funds to build these beautiful display cases, and for Edward Smaldone for facilitating this project. Special thanks to Rebecca Hyams, who played a major role in selecting the items to display and installing the display; Min Ahn, who created all of the collages and helped with design solutions; and the entire Music Library staff for the help throughout the project. The Music Library would also like to thank the faculty and staff of the Aaron Copland School of Music, the Queens College Libraries, the Queens College Libraries Special Collections and Archives Department.
Please come enjoy the rich history of the Aaron Copland School of Music!
