Barham Rotunda
Queens College Civil Rights Activism Exhibit
We invite you to see the remarkable Civil Rights Activism Exhibit now on view in the Barham Rotunda, curated by Professor Benjamin Alexander (GSLIS), with the assistance of his graduate students. We are honored to display a wealth of archival material ranging from posters, news clippings, student's handwritten essays, buttons, photographs, record jackets, letters, and more memorabilia donated by Mark Levy, a 1964 Queens College alum. Levy, a civil rights activist during the 1964 Freedom Summer along with slain civil rights worker, Queens College student Andrew Goodman, James Chaney, and Michael Schwerner, was co-director and teacher of the Meridian Freedom School in Mississippi. The exhibit is on view until mid-October 2009.

Writing the Body: New Work by Naomi Grossman
November 5 to December 23, 2009
- Reception: Wednesday, November 5, from 5-8 pm
- Artist's Talk: Wednesday, November 5, from 6-7 pm
WRITING THE BODY explores the human form in wire drawings and paper mixed media. This Queens artist's work speaks to the fragility and resilience of living in the 21st century. Focusing on elements of drawing while using a range of materials such as wire, wax, charcoal and photography, Grossman's work sensitively portrays the push and pull of power within the tangles of human relationships. Naomi Grossman, a Queens College alumna, is a mixed media artist whose work frequently explores themes of power, control, relationships and finding an authentic voice.
