LIB 100: Information Literacy
Improve your Library Research Skills!
The Library 100 course is designed to enable students to access and retrieve information using a variety of print and electronic resources. Students will learn how to:
- Recognize a specific information need
- Initiate a search strategy
- Successfully employ various searching techniques; assess the information found
- Synthesize the information, and properly quote and list the information found in their research
- Critically evaluate information sources and gain an appreciation for differing points of view
Through lectures, hands-on demonstrations and assignments, students will gain an understanding of the process of doing basic research, skills that can aid them in lifelong learning.
Course Requirements
Exact requirements will vary from class to class
- Weekly reading assignment to be completed prior to class
- Weekly homework assignments usually due the following session
- Class discussion
- Quiz (Mid-Term) will be given in class
- Attendance—the maximum number of absences is one
- Final Exam—A take-home final due during finals week will consist of identifying references on a specific pre-approved topic. References will include books, periodicals, newspapers and internet sources. You will be asked to briefly explain your search strategy.

Library 100 Useful Information
The LC Easy tutorial is on the desktops of the 8 computers by the Research Office (RO 307). It is also on all Library Dell laptops for loan, but not on the Macbooks.
