CREATING ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHIES
An annotated bibliography provides a brief summary of the contents of books, journal and magazine articles, newspaper articles, website, etc., that you have selected on your topic. The annotation (placed below each citation) describes the essential details of the article, book, website, etc.
The summary usually includes:
- Brief description of the contents
- Any special features
- Description of the author's particular viewpoint or bias
An annotated bibliography usually includes at least one from the following:
- Chapter or Entry from a specialized Reference Book
- Book
- Magazine article
- Newspaper article
- Scholarly journal article
- Government document or book review
- Website
- The bibliography should list each source in alphabetical by name of author’s last name (or title, when anonymously written)
