This is known as Undergraduate Research/Teaching Assistantships in Science, Math, Engineering and Technology. Participants are awarded $3000- $5000 depending on class standing

Mello Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program, Queens College

Benefits:
Full tuition and fees at Queens College, a $4000 stipend during the academic year, a grant of $3000 for each of two summers for participation in academic programs, a faculty mentor, and repayment of undergraduate/graduate academic loans up to $10,000 for students enrolled in full-time PhD programs in Mellon-designated fields.

Eligibility:

Teaching Improvement through Mathematics Education (TIME2000)
Funds free FOUR year Tuition for 35 students yearly to become Math Teachers. In return, students have to agree to teach math at any public or private school in the country for at least two of the first five years after graduation.

Requirements:
Student must have at least a B average in four years of college preparatory high school, a GPA of B or higher, and a recommendation from their high school math department. Participants major in math and minor in secondary education.

Project 1000 ( P1000)
A national program created to assist underrepresented students applying to graduate school. Students may apply FREE OF CHARGE to up to seven of the over 70 participating Project 1000 institutions by using a one application.

Features:
Bilingual academic advisors, an increased chance of being admitted to graduate school, assistance with application process, and in making decision about where to apply, assistance on how to locate financial aid, and free GRE workshops.

Eligibility:
U.S. Citizen or permanent residents of Mexican American, Puerto Rican, Cuban American of other Latin American ethnic heritage (regardless of address)
OR
African American or Native American ( Including U.S. Pacific Islander) students, residents of or are currently attending a university in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Western Texas (El Paso and the Tigua Indian Reservation) and the United States Virgin Islands. Eligible fields of study are those that require GRE or those that do not require an entrance exam.

Queens College Science Teacher Careers (STC) Program
Programs aims is to meet the need for certified Elementary School Science Teachers AND High School Science Teachers of biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science geology in New York City

Benefits:

Tuition waivers to STC members for all natural science and all secondary education courses or 20 of the elementary education credits required.
Ongoing support through advisement and individual peer tutoring in required introductory science and math courses Assistance, upon graduation or certification, in finding a teaching position in a New York City elementary or high school.

Ongoing attendance of STC Science Seminar ( a credit course) given at Queens College Acommitment to work for two years in New York City as a science teacher beginning withgraduation or teacher certification.

The CUNY Pipeline Program for Careers in College Teaching and Research

For minority undergraduates interested in careers in college teaching and research.
This program provides educational and financial support to minority undergraduates interested in pursuing the Ph.D. in preparation for college-level teaching and advanced research. Students receives a stipend of $3,250, orientation to academic profession through a summer research institute, free Kaplan GRE workshops, and Pipeline fellows who enter a CUNY doctoral program will receive a tuition waiver for their first year of doctoral study, and brings the total financial package to $7,600.

Eligibility:

• Ethnic minority students (African American, Asian American, Latino/a, or Native American)

Queens College New York Union Semester
Union Semester is excellent preparation for students interested in a wide variety of career paths – any career which requires an understanding of contemporary urban society. Participants in this program earn 12 to 16 credits from Queens College, 8-12 credits classroom instruction, and 4 credits in a field placement. Each participant in the program is placed as an intern with a labor union in New York City. Students work 35 hours a week and are compensated with a weekly stipend and tuition grant.

Union Semester students receive a tuition scholarship of $1,700. A stipend of $210 per week is paid by the sponsoring union to each student. Room and board are the responsibilities of the student, but Union Semester will try to help student find affordable housing.

Eligibility:
Open to students who have completed 45 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicant most submit a college transcript and a 500-word essay with applications.

The OFFICE OF HONORS AND SCHOLARSHIP has information regarding programs such as: The CUNY Pipeline Program, The Mellon Minority Undergraduate Fellowship Program, and Project Ascend/McNair.

The CUNY Pipeline Program is designed to encourage promising minority students of at least junior class standing to earn a Ph.D. and pursue a career in higher education. The program offers an intensive summer institute for college credit, Stipends, research opportunities, GRE/GMAT preparation, and graduate school preparation.

The Mellon Minority Undergraduate Fellowship Program is designed to identify Black, Latino, and Native American students of sophomore or junior standing in certain academic disciplines who want to pursue careers in college teaching. Eligible students receive full tuition and fees, a stipend of $3,000 for each of two summers for preparation in academic programs or travel for independent study, designation of faculty mentor, repayment of undergraduate loans for students enrolled in full-time Ph.D. programs in Mellon-designated fields, and participation in a seminar on contemporary critical theory and preparation for graduate school.

Project Ascend/McNair is a program funded by the United States Department of Education with the purpose of encouraging future doctoral study by promising undergraduates who are low-income first generation college students, as well as those from groups underrepresented in graduate education. Program activities for accepted students include graduate study at the school of their choice, as well as career counseling, research mentoring, research and study skill workshops and other special events.

Ruth Rudovsky Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Provides support for students who are sophomores, juniors or seniors. Students must show serious financial need and strong record of academic success.

S.W. Schmall Memorial Scholarship
To be eligible, students must have finished their sophomore year, have an overall GPA of 2.3 or better. Students Must also demonstrate financial need. Specifically for students majoring in Economics or Accounting, or who are pursuing the Business and Liberal Arts Program (BALA).

CMP Pub. Scholarship for Minority Students in Journalism or English
For students in the field, who have served as strong minority role models. Both minorities and non-minorities are eligible to apply. Application must indicate the way in which the candidate has served as a role model. No specific GPA is required, but students must be in good standing, and be beginning their junior year.

Esther’s Book Fund
The Esther Sapir Mendick memorial book fund assists students in purchasing required text books for their classes. Open to undergraduate students in all majors. No letter of recommendation required. Eligibility is based on financial need and academic merit. Students who experience unexpected economic hardship, but who may not show financial need under the Federal guidelines (FAFSA), may also apply.

Applications are considered once each semester, and deadline for consideration is one week after the semester begins.
