Annual Golf & Tennis Classic

About the Golf Outing:

Our first annual golf outing was held in May 2006 and our second in September 2007.  College Alumni and Corporate Sponsors all participated for the same reason:  to raise funds for Student Athletic Scholarships, while enjoying a day of golf.

Our third outing is scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2008.  The Fresh Meadow Country Club, located in Lake Success, NY will be the site for the outing for the third year in a row.  With 6,645 yards of pure golfing pleasure, it’s a sure way to have any golfer unable to resist participating.

Last year we were fortunate enough to have the company of successful alumni such as Michael Minikes, CEO, Bear Sterns; Jerry Cohen, Deloitte & Touche; Robert Wann, CFO, New York Community Bank, as well as representatives from Coke, Staples, Apple, Computer Associates, IBM, Grant Thornton, and Commerce Bank, among others.

About Queens College:

Mission

Queens College prepares students to become leaders of our global society by offering a rigorous education in the liberal arts and sciences under the guidance of a faculty dedicated to both teaching and research. Students graduate with the ability to think critically, address complex problems, explore various cultures, and use modern technologies and information resources. With a faculty and student population that reflects the diversity of New York City, Queens College provides an unusually rich education.
Because Queens is a commuter college, the administration is dedicated to making students feel that the college is their home-away-from-home, with over 100 clubs and a full athletics program. In fact, Queens is the only CUNY college that participates in Division II sports.

About Queens College Athletics:

In the belief that an integrated curriculum should foster students’ physical as well as cognitive abilities, the Queens College Athletics Program presents students with an opportunity to participate in and enjoy varsity as well as intramural and recreational athletics.
We currently have 20 intercollegiate varsity athletic teams here at Queens College.  These include men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, swimming, tennis, track & field, cross country, water polo, baseball, softball, women’s fencing, and women’s volleyball.
QC Athletics encourages every student-athlete to complete a meaningful academic degree program, participate fully in the college community and prepare for life after college athletics. Athletics is an integral part of the college’s educational program.
Athletics strives to provide equitable opportunities (as defined under Title IX and Office of Civil Rights guidelines) for all students to engage in intercollegiate athletics as a means of satisfying the need for sport participation on a high level of amateur competition, according to principles of fair play and amateurism as defined by the NCAA.

In addition, athletics provides opportunities for non-players to assist in organizing and conducting intercollegiate events and provides a means for students, faculty and members of the community to develop closer ties and identification with the College.
