* - ECC Game

Adelphi University defeated the Knights, 85-79, in an East Coast Conference Quarterfinal battle in Garden City, New York on Wednesday night. The loss ends QC's 2006-07 season. Bradd Wierzbicki led Queens with 20 points while Hassan Washington scored 17 and Lance Hazel posted a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) in their final appearances as Queens College Knights.

Queens trailed by as many as 12 in the second half before a Washington basket 9:23 into the half capped a 13-3 run to pull them within a basket at 60-58. Queens stayed close and when Liander connected with 57 seconds remaining, they found themselves down by only one, 78-77. Mike Mosby then came up big for Adelphi with a basket and the ensuing foul shot with half a minute to go to make the score 81-77 AU. Wierzbicki got QC back within two with a basket with 0:19 on the clock but a free throw each from Kimani Blaize and Donnell Cummings and two from Alvin Vivican provided the winning margin for the home team.

With his 20 points tonight, Bradd Wierzbicki finished his career with 1686 points, good for fourth place on the Knights all-time scoring list. Lance Hazel also made his mark on the record books, finishing with 1140 points (13th place), 565 rebounds (tie for 12th) and 293 assists. White Plains native Hassan Washington completed his career as the Knights all-time assist leader with 575 while scoring 916 points and grabbing 432 rebounds in 115 games for Queens College.

* - ECC Game

The Knights defense of their NYCAC title came to a disappointing end as they let a 13 point halftime lead slip away in a 84-79 loss to Bridgeport on Saturday night at C.W. Post.

Bradd Wierzbicki had 17 of his 26 points and Shaun Bertin added 10 to help Queens to a 52-39 halftime lead. Bridgport chipped away at that lead in the second stanza and when Andre Brooks scored a basket with 2:53 remaining, UB had their first lead since scoring the first basket of the game. A Lance Hazel free throw deadlocked the game at 75 with 1:23 showing on the clock but Bridgeport outscored Queens 9-4 to win the game and advance to the NYCAC finals. The loss was the ninth consecutive that the Knights have suffered at the hands of UB.

Hassan Washington contibuted 17 points, Lance Hazel added 10 points and seven assists while Bertin finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

Queens now awaits the decisions of the NCAA and ECAC committees who will determine their post-season fate.

Record setting season ends in the NCAA Regionals

Cold shooting and a late Bentley surge spelled trouble for the eighth seeded Knights in a 85-68 season-ending loss in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Northeast regionals on Saturday in Waltham, MA. NYCAC Champion Queens ends the 2004-05 season with 22 wins, the highest single season total in the 67 year history of the program.

Senior John Sikiric, in his last game wearing QC's navy and silver, led his gutsy squad with 20 points.

A Patrice Thevenot free throw, which followed three pointers by Sikiric and Lance Hazel, had the Knights sniffing at the Falcons talons at 62-58 with 7:32 remaining in the second half. This was the closest Queens had been since they lead 2-0 in the game's opening minute. Bentley then put together an 11-0 run to open up a 15 point lead, a margin Queens could not overcome as they shot only 7 for 33 from the field - including a mind-boggling 2 for 19 from two point range - in the second half.

Senior Patrice Thevenot added 11 points and nine boards while Hazel scored 10 points and NYCAC Rookie of the Year Clyde Chapman pulled down a game high 12 rebounds in the defeat.

With his 20 points, Sikiric finishes his stellar Queens College with 1670 points - good for fourth on the all-time list. He also completed 2004-05 with 611 points, a new single season Knights record. His four rebounds on the night give him 517 in his 95 games at QC, good for 16th on the all-time rebounding roster. Knights head coach Kyrk Peponakis said of Sikiric, "He's the most professional player we've ever had. He's led us from day one and carried us to where we are."
