Recreation and Intramural Programs
Students, faculty, and staff can take advantage of Queens College's informal open recreation and organized intramural activities. The open recreation program lets the college community enjoy the use of Fitzgerald Gymnasium and other athletic facilities during designated hours. The Intramural program gives everyone on campus the chance to participate in competitive sports such as basketball, football, volleyball, softball, and distance races. Schedules are available in the Fitness Center, Fitzgerald 206, at the start of the semester.
Facilities
Queens College has some top flight exercise facilities. The Maurice Fitzgerald Gymnasium is home to two dance and exercise studios, a six lane swimming pool, ten standard basketball courts, and ten badminton courts. The weight room has Free weights, Cybex Machines, Exercise bicycles, treadmills, Stairmasters and other state of the art equipment. The gym is open seven days a week. Outside is a newly renovated 400 meter track, 12 outdoor tennis courts and the varsity playing fields. New to Queens College is the state of the art indoor tennis center that will allow tennis enthusiasts year round play.
Fees
The Athletic and Recreation Programs are funded by the
activity fees of students, faculty, and staff. A percentage of the activity
fee, paid at the beginning of each semester as part of tuition, entitles
all students to participate in the programs. A valid student I.D. is
required for admission to the facilities. Validation stickers for faculty
and staff can be purchased in the Fitness center, Fitzgerald 206, during
operating hours.
