11/1/07

The Lady Knights trailed virtually throughout in their 30-18, 30-25, 30-14 loss to the University of New Haven in the 2007 regular season finale on Thursday in Flushing. The two teams will meet again six days from now in New Haven in the quarterfinals of the East Coast Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament.

New Haven used two runs of seven consecutive points on their way to a 30-18 win in game one. Queens got as close as 25-23 in game two but still lost, 30-25. In the final game of the night, Queens took their only leads of the match at 2-0 and 3-2 but faded late in losing, 30-14.

Natalie Edward and Enobong Shammah each had 11 kills to lead Queens. Senior setter Marianna Megas also handed out 32 assists in the last home game of her Lady Knights' career.

Queens College outlasted Molloy College in five, 30-25, 25-30, 30-27, 29-31 and 15-10 in Rockville Centre on Tuesday in an ECC match with great playoff significance. The win sews up a playoff spot and puts the Lady Knights in sixth place with one left to play, a half game ahead of both Molloy and Bridgeport.

Jamie DiChiara had three kills as Queens jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the fifth and deciding game. She finished the game with four of her six kills for the match and Enobong Shammah added three of her game high 25 kills in a 15-10 game five victory.

Natalie Edward added 17 kills, six blocks and three aces in the Lady Knights crucial conference win. Marianna Megas also handed out 53 assists and had eight digs and Milica Mrdak had 10 kills, three aces and 15 digs in helping Queens improve to 13-12 overall and 3-5 in ECC play.

New York Tech won the last three games to defeat the Lady Knights, three games to one, in a pivotal East Coast Conference match on Thursday night in Fitzgerald Gymnasium. The win puts NYIT a game and a half in front of Queens in the battle for playoff positioning.

Tech began the evening by scoring the first six points en route to a 20-13 lead. Queens fought back, scoring five in a row and 12 of 15 to move out to a 25-23 advantage on the way to a 30-28 game one victory. The contest remained tight until late in game two when Tech scored the last eight points to turn a 22-20 edge into a 30-20 game two win. It was smooth sailing for the visitors from that point on as they went on to win games three and four by scores of 30-15 and 30-16.

Enobong Shammah had 16 kills and six digs while Milica Mrdak added 11 kills and 10 digs for the Lady Knights, who are now 12-12 overall and 2-5 in ECC play.

The Lady Knights, led by Enobong Shammah with 17 kills, swept past Southern Connecticut State University in three games in a non-conference match played on Tuesday night in Fitzgerald Gym. The win snaps QC's three game losing streak and enables them to move over the break even mark at 12-11. SCSU drops to 10-21 with the loss.

With Queens ahead 20-18 in game one, the home team ran off seven consecutive points while Milica Mrdak was serving to win the game, 30-21, and take control of the match. Natalie Edward added 13 kills and five blocks to the Lady Knights winning effort. Marianna Megas handed out 36 assists and had eight digs while Mrdak chipped in with eight kills, two service aces and seven digs as QC rolled to a 30-21, 30-21, 30-26 victory.

Enobong Shammah had 24 kills but Concordia came away the victory in five games in an ECC match-up played in Bronxville, New York on Thursday night. The loss was the third straight for QC, who had won four straight and six of nine prior to this losing streak.

Concordia and the Lady Knights swapped the first four games with Queens winning games two and four before dropping the fifth, 15-11. Natalie Edward had a fine all-round game with 19 kills, nine digs, five aces and five blocks while Marianna Megas chipped in with 44 assists and Milica Mrdak added seven kills and nine digs.

10/16/07

The Lady Knights were swept by Dowling College, 30-21, 30-19 and 30-15 in an East Coast Conference game on Tuesday evening in Oakdale, New York. For Dowling it was their 24 consecutive victory.

Queens kept pace with the Golden Lions in game one and rallied within three points (18-15) with back to back slams from Natalie Edward, but Dowling pulled away with a kill from Kyla Muela and an ace from Patrycja Klekotka. Dowling continued to push for the win and QC attacking errors would hand the Golden Lions a 30-21 victory.

The Golden Lions front line paired with Klekotka at the service line in the beginning of game two gave the Golden Lions a 17-4 edge. However, the Lady Knights would not give up the game without a fight as they went back and forth with the Golden Lions for a 30-19 finish.

In game three the Golden Lions led by as many as 14 (27-13) as they put the Queens away and took the match.

Natalie Edward led Queens with eight kills, three service aces and four digs. Marianna Megas also had 15 assists for QC.

10/12, 10/13/07

UPR-Mayaguez defeated Queens College, 30-20, 30-25, 30-10 on the final day of the QC Invitaional. All-Tournament selection Natalie Edward had nine kills, six digs and five blocks while Enobong Shammah had an impressive kill percentage of .579 on 12 kills in the loss. The loss wraps up a busy week for the Lady Knights, who posted four wins in five games in the last five days.

Castries, St. Lucia native Natalie Edward pounded out 34 kills in the Lady Knights victories over Pace University and Mercy College in the first day of action at the QC Invitational in Flushing. QC opened the tournament by beating Pace in three games and immediately followed that up with a four game win over Mercy.

Edward's 17 kills and four blocks were instrumental in her team's 30-22, 30-23, 30-21 over Pace. Marianna Megas also handed out 31 assists and added eight digs in the win.

Next up for Queens was Mercy College, who they beat 24 hours earlier in an ECC contest. Just like the night before Mercy jumped out to a 1-0 lead in games but QC rallied to take the next three and the match. Edward had 17 kills and three blocks, Megas added 45 assists and nine digs, Enobong Shammah had 15 kills and Milica Mrdak chipped in with 11 kills and 15 digs in the Lady Knights' 29-31, 30-25, 30-20, 30-26 victory.

Natalie Edward had 21 kills and posted a .409 kill percentage as her Lady Knights' rebounded to defeat the University of Bridgeport in four games, 25-30, 33-31, 30-27 and 30-28 in Connecticut on Tuesday night. The win was the first for Queens in ECC action in 2007.

Edward added five service aces and 10 blocks to her impressive hitting numbers. Enobong Shammah and Milica Mrdak were also in double figures in kills with Shammah pounding out 15 and Mrdak adding 10 and 12 digs. Queens finished the match with 15 team blocks, the third time that they have been in double figures this season.

With the win Queens College evened their record at 8-8 while UB saw their's drop to 17-11 and 3-2 in league play.

C.W. Post defeated Queens College, 30-21, 30-11 and 30-26 in an East Coast Conference game played in Fitzgerald Gymnasium on Thursday afternoon. Queens has now lost eight of their last ten and dropped to 7-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Queens was led by Natalie Edward, who had 10 kills and Enobong Shammah who recorded seven. Marianna Megas also had 21 assists and six digs for the Lady Knights in a losing effort.

Georgian Court University defeated Queens College, three games to one, in a non-conference tilt played in Flushing on Tuesday night. Enobong Shammah led the Lady Knights attack with 14 kills and a .417 kill percentage.

Georgian Court (13-4) took control of the match in the first game by running off eight straight points to take a 21-16 lead en route to a 30-26 game one win. The two teams then traded games, GCU winning 30-23 and QC coming out on top 30-25 before GCU ended the match with a 30-25 game four win.

Natalie Edward added 19 kills, Shannon Kelly had eight kills and 10 digs and Milica Mrdak chipped in with six kills and 13 digs in a QC loss that dropped them to 7-7 on the season.

The big guns of the Lady Knights came to play in their 30-24, 30-14, 30-23 victory against the University of Sciences in Phialdelphia on Saturday. Natalie Edward and Enobong Shammah combined for 23 kills and a kill percentage of .383 in QC's non-conference win.

Edward led Queens with 12 kills and three blocks while Shammah added 11 kills, six blocks - including five solos - and a .417 kill percentage to help the Lady Knights improve to 7-6 in 2007. Marianna Megas handed out 38 assists and Milica Mrdak added nine kills and nine digs for Queens, who return home on Tuesday for the first time in three weeks.

Adelphi University defeated Queens College in the Lady Knights' ECC opener in three games on Tuesday night in Garden City, New York. Natalie Edward led QC's offense with 12 kills in their 27-30, 27-30, 21-30 loss.

The loss to Adelphi drops the Lady Knights to 6-6 overall. Enobong Shammah had nine kills while Milica Mrdak added six kills and six digs for Queens.

The hitting of Natalie Edward helped the Lady Knights salvage a split of their matches on Saturday at the Northeast 10 / East Coast Conference Challenge at Bentley College in Waltham, Massachussets. Queens lost to Bentley in three in their first match of the day but rebounded to defeat Merrimack College in three to end a five game losing streak.

Edward, who was named to the all-tournament team, led QC with 14 kills in the win over Merrimack while Enobong Shammah added 13 kills and Marianna Megas had 32 assists. In the loss to Bentley, Natalie had nine kills and three blocks and Milica Mrdak chipped in with six kills and a team leading 11 digs.

The Lady Knights lost the opener of the Northeast 10 / East Coast Conference Challenge to Franklin Pierce College on Friday night in Rindge, New Hampshire. Natalie Edward had 16 kills, seven digs and four blocks and Enobong Shammah added 14 kills for Queens. Shannon Kelly also had six kills and a team high 15 digs for the Lady Knights.

Pace University defeated Queens College in a five set, non-conference match played in Pleasantville, New York on Tuesday night. Queens won games one and three by scores of 30-24 and 30-23, respectively, but lost game two 30-23, game four 30-24 and game five 15-9. The Lady Knights have now dropped three straight after opening up the 2007 season with five consecutive victories.

Enobong Shammah led QC with 19 kills to go along with three blocks and two aces while Natalie Edward had 18 kills, nine digs, three blocks and two aces. Marianna Megas also handed out 53 assists for the Lady Knights.

Queens College ran their season opening winning streak to five on Friday night before seeing it come to an end on Saturday at the Bryant University Tournament, held in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The Lady Knights defeated ECC rival Mercy in three games in a non-conference match on Friday evening before dropping two games to Bentley and Bryant of the NE 10 on Saturday.

Enobong Shammah, who earned all-Tournament honors for QC, had 18 kills and three blocks while Natalie Edward added 11 kills on 20 attempts and Marianna Megas had 36 assists against the host school.

The Lady Knights improved to 4-0 on the season by defeating Nyack College in three games, 30-17, 30-23, 30-15, in Fitzgerald Gymnasium on Tuesday night. Enobong Shammah, who was named ECC Co-Player of the Week earlier in the day, led Queens with 13 kills and a .556 kill percentage in their non-conference win.

Natalie Edward added 11 kills and Marianna Megas had 27 assists for QC, who travel up to New Engalnd this weekend for the Bryant University Tournament, which begins on Friday.

The twin towers of Natalie Edward and Enobong Shammah combined for 33 kills to help the Lady Knights to a non-conference victory over Holy Family on Saturday as part of a tri-match at NYIT. For Queens, who improved to 3-0, it was their second five game win in as many days.

For the second time in less than 24 hours, QC split the first four games of their match before winning game five, 15-11. Edward finished with a team high 17 kills and six blocks while Shammah had 16 kills in the 30-23, 17-30, 30-26, 25-30, 15-11 win.

Setter Marianna Megas handed out 40 assists and had 16 digs and newcomer Shannon Kelly added 13 kills and nine digs for the Lady Knights, who return home on Tuesday night to face Nyack College.

Queens College began their 2007 home schedule by defeating UMass-Lowell in five games on Friday night. With the win, the Lady Knights improve to 2-0 on the season while Lowell falls to 1-3.

The two sides traded games, 30-20, 29-31, 30-23 and 22-30 to set up a fifth game, which Queens won, 15-11. Enobong Shammah had 17 kills while Shannon Kelly added 12 kills and 18 digs and Milica Mrdak also had 12 kills and 13 digs for the Lady Knights.

Elsa LeGrand led UMass-Lowell with 14 kills while Jillian Hadder chipped in with nine kills and 14 digs in a losing effort.

The Lady Knights opened up their 2007 season with a 30-17, 30-23, 30-24 win at Post University on Wednesday evening. Enobong Shammah led the QC attack with 16 kills and three blocks while Marianna Megas handed out 25 assists in the victory.

Karin Sauer had a game high 30 kills but it was not enough to put Queens over the top in a five game playoff loss at third seeded NYIT on Wednesday night. The Lady Knights won two of the first three games, 30-17, 26-30 and 30-15, before dropping the last two, 23-30 and 11-15, in losing the ECC Quarterfinal.

Natalie Edward continued her strong play with 13 kills, three services aces and three blocks and Dawn Richardson had 47 assists and a team high 15 digs in a loss that saw QC end their season end with a record of 13-10.

A travel weary Lady Knights squad outlasted Bloomfield College in five games on Monday night in a non-conference match-up played in Fitzgerald Gym. Queens, who returned home from Puerto Rico ealier in the day, took the first two games, 31-29 and 30-28 before losing games three and four, 30-27 and 30-28. QC then rallied to take the fifth and deciding game, 15-11.

Natalie Edward led the way for the Lady Knights with 23 kills and a kill percentage of .512 in a playoff tune-up. Dawn Richardson also handed out 50 assists to go along with 13 digs and Karin Sauer added 18 kills and 16 digs in the win.

The Lady Knights rallied to win two out of three at the University of Puerto Rico - Mayaguez Tournament held on Friday and Saturday. Queens lost their first five games before coming on strong to take their final six in losing to UPR - Rio Piedras before beating UPR - Cayey and UPR - Mayaguez.

QC opened their trip on Friday with a 27-30, 22-30, 25-30 loss to Rio Piedras. Natalie Edward led Queens with 14 kills in the loss.

On Saturday, the Lady Knights fell behind Cayey 23-30 and 20-30 before rallying to win the next three games and the match, 30-27, 30-23 and 15-11. Karin Sauer had 27 kills and 15 digs while Edward had 15 kills and six blocks and Mari Toivanen added 21 digs in the come-from-behind victory.

Next up for Queens was Mayaguez. QC made quick work of their hosts, defeating them 30-26, 30-18 and 30-23. Edward had 18 kills, seven blocks and three service aces in the win. The victory, QC's 11th in 14 games, was aided by 14 kills and nine digs from Sauer, 40 assists from Dawn Richardson and 19 digs from Milica Mrdak.

Karin Sauer had 14 kills and six digs and Natalie Edward added 13 kills and four aces to lead Queens past Bridgeport in three, 30-21, 30-25, 30-26, in Fitzgerald Gym on Thursday night. The Lady Knights finish their regular season conference schedule with five wins in nine games.

Dawn Richardson handed out 37 assists and had a team high 11 digs in the win, QC's ninth in their past 11 games.

The Lady Knights saw their winning streak snapped at four in New Haven, 30-26, 29-31, 20-30, 26-30. The loss drops Queens to 4-4 in conference play with one ECC game left on their schedule.

Karin Sauer led QC with 17 kills and 21 digs in the loss while Natalie Edward and Jacquie Wicks each had 12 kills. Dawn Richardson added 40 assists, nine digs and four aces in a match that started well for the Lady Knights but turned after they narrowly lost game two.

10/21/06

Queens made the trek up to Lowell, Massachussets on Saturday and returned with non-conference wins over Franklin Pierce College and UMass-Lowell. With the victories the Lady Knights have now won four straight and eight of their last nine.

The first match was a bit easier for QC as they took four games to beat their hosts, UMass-Lowell, 30-27, 30-27, 28-30, 30-23. Karin Sauer once again led the way with 22 kills, 23 digs and six aces while Natalie Edward added 17 kills and five blocks, Mari Toivanen had 21 digs and Dawn Richardson had 58 assists.

QC produced their biggest comeback of the season in defeating Franklin Pierce in their second match of the day. They lost games one and two, 20-30 and 27-30, before winning game three 30-26 to extend the match. QC then won a marathon game four, 34-32, before eeking out a 15-13, game five win to take the match. Sauer had 16 kills, 17 digs and six service aces in the win. Edward aided Sauer with 14 kills and five more blocks, Milica Mrdak chipped in with 15 kills and 12 digs while Richardson handed out 53 assists in the win.

10/16/06

The Lady Knights remained in the hunt for a first round home playoff game by defeating Concordia College, 30-25, 28-30, 30-22 and 30-25 in Flushing on Monday night. With the teams even at one game apiece and Concordia ahead 15-13, Queens ran off 11 straight point to take control of game three en route to a three games to one victory.

Natalie Edward led the QC attack with 18 kills and a hitting percentage of .433 while Karin Sauer and Jacquie Wicks added 17 and 13 kills, respectively. Dawn Richardson also keyed the Queens victory with 49 assists and 10 digs while Sauer (13), Milica Mrdak (10) and Mari Toivanen (10) were also in double figures in digs.

Natalie Edward had 15 kills and Karin Sauer added 12 to lead the Lady Knights past Pace University, 30-21, 30-27, 30-22 in Flushing on Thursday night. With the non-conference win Queens improves to 6-7 on the season.

Setter Dawn Richardson handed out a game high 40 assists in the Lady Knights victory. She also added 12 digs, which was good for a team high which she shared with Milica Mrdak and Karin Sauer.

NYIT handed Queens a 30-25, 30-20, 30-24 loss in Old Westbury, New York on Thursday night. The loss ends QC's four game winning streak.

The Lady Knights were led by senior Karin Sauer, who recorded 16 kills in the three game loss. Jacquie Wicks had a team high 14 digs and Dawn Richardson added 25 assists as Queens saw their record drop to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in East Coast Conference play.

The Lady Knights made it four straight wins by defeating Molloy College, 30-14, 30-18 and 30-17 in Flushing on Tuesday night. With the win, Queens improves to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in ECC play while Molloy falls to 6-10 and 1-3.

East Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week Karin Sauer led the QC offense with 17 kills and Dawn Richardson handed out 30 assists in the win. Lady Knights sophomore Milica Mrdak led all players with 10 digs.

9/30/06

Karin Sauer, Natalie Edward and Dawn Richardson each came up big to help lead the Lady Knights to wins over Merrimack and Southern Connecticut on Saturday afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut. In their first game of the day QC downed Merrimack in five, 30-28, 30-12, 31-33, 25-30, and 15-12. They followed this up with a 30-15, 30-23 and 30-22 win over the host Owls from Southern Connecticut State.

Sauer had 23 kills and 23 digs against Merrimack while Edward added 18 kills and Richardson had 60 assists. In the match-up with Southern Connecticut, Sauer had another 14 kills to go along with 20 digs and six service aces. Edward repeated her performance of the first match with 18 kills while Richardson handed out another 46 assists in the win.

The Lady Knights got back in the win column by defeating Mercy College, 30-25, 30-26 and 30-8, on Thursday night in Westchester. Karin Sauer recorded 25 kills to lead her team to an East Coast Conference victory.

Dawn Richardson dished out 42 assists to go along with eight digs to help QC even their conference record at 2-2. Natalie Edward added 12 kills and three blocks while libero Mari Toivanen had 14 digs in the win.

Karin Sauer had 22 kills and 16 digs but the Lady Knights still lost to Dowling in four on Thursday in an ECC game played in Flushing. The two teams played two close games to kick off the match with Dowling winning the first, 31-29 before Queens answered with a 30-28 game two victory. Dowling then closed out the match with 30-26 and 30-23 wins.

Dawn Richardson handed out 35 assists and added 10 digs and Mari Toivanen had 12 digs in the Lady Knights second consecutive league loss.

9/19/06

C.W. Post defeated Queens College 30-25, 32-30 and 30-26 in Brookville on Tuesday night. The loss evens the Lady Knights conference record at 1-1.

Once again the Lady Knights offense was led by Karin Sauer who had 13 kills in the loss. Dawn Richardson had a team high 22 assists to go along with seven digs while Jacquie Wicks added seven kills, seven assists and nine digs for QC who let game two slip away after leading 29-26. Queens also led 23-20 in game three before surrendering seven consecutive points.

Karin Sauer pounded out 19 kills and Dawn Richardson had 35 assists as Queens defeated Adelphi University, 30-20, 30-28, 24-30, 30-25, in East Coast Conference action in Flushing. The win was the Lady Knights first of 2006 while Adelpi dropped to 8-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Natalie Edward added 12 kills, Jacquie Wicks had nine kills, eight assists and a team high 14 digs, and Milica Mrdak had 11 digs and five aces for QC in their win.

Georgian Court University defeated Queens College three games to one in a Saturday matinee played in Lakewood, New Jersey. GCU won the first two games, 30-26 and 30-25, before QC sent the match to a fourth game by winning game three, 30-25.

Senior Karin Sauer led the Lady Knights with 23 kills and eight digs. Dawn Richardson added 32 assists and 11 digs while Natalie Edwards recorded eight kills and 10 digs as QC returns to Flushing to take on East Coast Conference rival Adelphi on Thursday in their 2006 home opener.

It was an inauspicious start to the 2006 season for the Lady Knights as they dropped all three of their games at the C.W. Post Tournament this weekend on Long Island. Queens lost in three to Bryant and in five to West Chester on Friday night and returned on Saturday to drop a three game decision to Nova Southeastern.

Karin Sauer had 51 kills and 31 digs over the weekend for QC including 27 kills and 19 digs against West Chester. In that same game, Milica Mrdak recorded 15 kills and 13 digs while Natalie Edwards added 15 kills and nine blocks.

Sixth seeded Queens battled NYIT to the bitter end but came away second best in a 30-25, 27-30, 30-25, 28-30, 9-15 loss in the NYCAC Quarterfinals. The Lady Knights finish the 2005 season with a record of 11-16.

Karin Sauer had a big afternoon for Queens with 31 kills and 15 digs while Rookie of the Year candidate Natalie Edward added 20 kills and four blocks. Dawn Richardson also dished out 61 assists while Milica Mrdak had 11 kills and 19 digs in a match that saw QC hold a two games to one lead before succumbing to the third seeded Lady Bears.
