 Welcome...
The Science Teacher Careers (STC) is sponsored by the Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, in strong collaboration with the Division of Education, of Queens College. Its primary goal is to address the critical shortage of high school science teachers in Queens and New York City. STC recruits candidates and together with the Science Education program of SEYS provides a comprehensive science education support system and assistance toward their goal of initial science teacher certification and ultimate employment as science teachers in New York City and NY State. We admit post-baccalaureate applicants as well as undergraduates, who are dual-advised by STC and SEYS, and especially encourage women and minority applicants. Its participants come from many countries of the world and many professions.

Admissions:

At Queens College, Science Teacher Career participants are recruited for admission to STC each September and February. [For the STC Application, click here.]

Applicants to Science Teacher Careers may come from the following educational backgrounds:

  1. Queens College undergraduate science majors in Biology, Chemistry, Geology or Physics planning to become high school science teachers.

  2. Applicants with Bachelor's or higher degrees in science or a liberal arts major with a base of science courses and needing science and education courses for NY State certification. These STC applicants will enter the Queens College Graduate school.

  3. Transfer students from Four-Year and Community Colleges with a base of science courses.

  • ongoing advisement and academic counseling

  • a unique Science Teacher Careers Seminar which focuses on: investigative science methodology (science inquiry), the history and philosophy of science, the frontiers of science and science education, the National Science Education Content Standards and the applications of these to science teaching.

  • upon graduation or certification, placement assistance for you as teachers in the Queens and New York State Schools [we do NOT assign to any particular school].
