Alumni Olympians
Queens College has had sports programs since it opened in 1937. There have been many highlights over the years. The Men's Water Polo team finished #3 in the entire country in 1997 and 2002. Women's basketball finished number 2 in the USA in 1973. Men's basketball won the N.Y. Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in 2002 and won 22 games in 2004-5 which was the most in the 67 year history of the program.
In 2003 and 2004 the women's Volleyball team made it to the NCAA "Elite Eight."
Did you know that Queens College has also had at least 4 Olympic participants?

Rudy Haluza '52 ran for the US Olympic Track & Field Team in Rome in '60 and Mexico City in '68. (He finished 4th just missing a bronze medal.) He is a retired United Airlines pilot.
Marjorie Lea Larney, a student in the 50’s threw the Javelin in Helsinki in '52 and in Melbourne in '56. She is now an author.
Robert Koehler '56 swam for the US Olympic Water Polo Team in Helsinki in '52. He was a founder of the Queens College Water Polo Team. A former member of the American Stock Exchange. His career is featured in the Water Polo Hall of Fame in Clearwater, Florida.
Gail Marquis '80 was a member of the first U.S. Women's Basketball Team which won a silver medal in Montreal in '76. Gail was a star on the Women's Basketball Team which finished #2 in the country in '73. She also played for QC in the first women's game ever held in Madison Square Garden in '75. She is now a financial Consultant.
