5, 2000: Panel discussion on sculptor B. Amore’s “Lifeline” installation
at the Ellis Island Museum (opens November 4th), to be held
at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura. Discussants include visual artist B. Amore, Mary
Sabatino, director of the art gallery Galerie Lelong, Dr. Pelligrino
D'Acierno, Professor of Comparative Literature and Director of the
Program in Italian Studies at Hofstra University, and Flavia Rando,
independent scholar and art critic.

20, 2001: “The Brooklyn Giglio: A Community
Dialogue” at the New-York Historical Society, with giglio
feast participants and community members Michael Addeo, Vera Galasso
Badamo, Monsignor David L. Cassato, Benjamin “Benny” Mangone, Salvatore
“Sarge” Mirando, and Daniel Vecchiano talking about their involvement in
the feast.
- February
9, 2001: “Fascism, Anti-Fascism, and the
Italian American Community: A Symposium in Commemoration of Carlo Tresca,”
with Philip Cannistraro, John Diggins, Charles Killinger, Gerald Meyer,
Fraser Ottanelli, and Nunzio Pernicone, and at the CUNY Graduate Center.
- March
23, 2001: “The Accordion as an
Icon in Italian American Culture,” Symposium and Concert at the CUNY
Graduate Center.
- April
1, 2001, 4 PM: “Amerisicula: Sicilian Poetry in New York” at The Kitchen
Experience the rich poetic tradition of Sicily, known as l’isola dei
poeti (the island of poets). Sicilian poets from metropolitan New York
recite their work in ottava rima, the quintessential Sicilian poetic
meter, and contrasti, a poetic debate between two poets. Featuring the
work of Vincenzo Ancona, Gaetano Cipolla, Antonina LiCastri,
Gaspare Pipitone, Nino Provezano, and Giuseppe Turricano. This event is co-sponsored with Arba Sicula and City Lore, as part of the latter’s “People’s Poetry Gathering,” a citywide
