ITALICS

THE ITALIAN AMERICAN MAGAZINE

City University Television Cable Channel # 75 (RCN Ch.77)

On this Snowbound, Post-Holiday Edition of ITALICS we dig out by digging in. First we’ll join His Eminence Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe of Naples, Italy, on his recent visit to New York City, entitled “Dire Napoli, Don’t Close the Door on Hope”, We’ll join NOIAW for their annual Epiphany Party honoring their “3 Wise Women”, and learn about Italian Folk, the new anthology, edited by Dr. Joseph Sciorra of the Calandra Institute.

New York, January 24th, 2011 - ITALICS, The Italian American Magazine, hosted by Anthony J. Tamburri, premieres on Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 at 10am, 3pm & 11pm. ITALICS can also be seen on Saturday, January 29th, 2011, at 8pm, & on Sunday, January 30th, 2011 at 10am on CUNY-TV, Ch.75 and RCN, Ch.77 in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, & The Bronx

First on ITALICS, "Dire Napoli" (or Telling Naples) is the title of His Eminence Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe's recent visit to New York. The initiative's subtitle "Don't Close the Door on Hope" indicates that its aim is to present Naples to the world without hiding the city's pain and contradictions while highlighting its beauty and hope for redemption.  A series of events took place over five days when His Eminence visited the institutions and organizations that invited him to New York.  Accompanying Cardinal Sepe on his trip was  Undersecretary of State Hon. Vincenzo Scotti, representing the Italian government.  Cardinal Sepe was a guest of the Calandra Institute and participated in a discussion on Global Migrations from an Italian and American perspective, which was held at the CUNY Graduate Center.

Next ITALICS takes you to NOIAW, or The National Organization of Italian American Women’s annual Epiphany Celebration in Honor of Three Wise Women selected from the Italian American Community for their achievements and contributions. NOIAW’S Honorees for 2011 are: Gina Biancardi, Founder & President, Casa Belvedere, The Italian Cultural Foundation; Marianne J. Legato, MD., F.A.C.P., Founder and Director, Partnership for Gender-Specific Medicine and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University; and Marisa May, Celebrated Restaurateur, Co-Owner, SD26 Restaurant & Wine Bar & SD26 Events.

Next on ITALICS, we’ll take you to a book presentation of  “Italian Folk, Vernacular Culture in Italian American Lives”, Edited by Dr. Joseph Sciorra, Folklorist at The Calandra Institute/CUNY.
