Bob Haan was the first Liaison between Queens College and Townsend Harris High School and the Director of College Preparatory Programs as an Associate Dean of the Division of Education from 1984 - 1991.   While Director, Dr. Haan continued to teach in the QC History Department as well as in the Honors in the Western Tradition, including the Freshman Humanities Colloquium for the Townsend Harris HS Bridge Year.   One of his personal projects was a computer game he created that revolved around early 16th Century Italian politics.   He gathered a group of Harrisites that would meet regularly to play the game, discuss historical tactics, and enjoy a different implementation of the learning process.

Bob Haan was a man of great humor and great integrity.   He shall be missed.

Bon Voyage, Professor Hitt!

For the past five years, Prof. Hitt has been a core member of our Humanities faculty and our "specialist" in Machiavelli and, more recently, Candide for the Freshman Humanities Colloquium Lecture Series.  Titles of his presentations include, "Is The Prince a 'Playa's' Guide?", "Machiavelli: With Friends Like That, Who Needs...", and "Dr. Pangloss: An Idiot Savant"

We wish him well in his endeavors and will miss hearing our students praise his engaging style of teaching.

Queens College Ranks Among Top 10 Public Universities

in its Category

“The 2010 edition of the much-anticipated U.S. News and World Report America’s Best Colleges guidebook ranks Queens College among the top 10 public universities in its category, Best Universities–Master’s (North). This category describes colleges that offer a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs but few, if any, PhD programs.

Queens College also leapt to the #45 position from #65 last year among the 172 peer colleges ranked in its category.”

“The popular college guidebook The Princeton Review The Best 371 Colleges also  includes Queens College in its latest edition—only about 15% of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges and two Canadian colleges are profiled.  According to Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s vice president of publishing, ‘the primary criteria for our choice of schools for the book [is] outstanding academics.’ ”
