Notes:
* MEDST 143/144
J. Summerfield told the committee that she has been in contact with the department and that the department is working collectively on resolving the issues with the outstanding proposals.
** DRAM 244
The committee recommends that emphasis is put on how the course fulfills the PLAS criteria, other than for the methodology it introduces (e.g. creative drama). J. Summerfield expressed her interest in being involved in the resolution of this proposal.
*** ENGL 253
The committee recommends that a paragraph indicating how the course fulfills PLAS criteria be added to the syllabi. Also, the committee raised the issue that while one of the syllabi contains descriptions that indicate how student writing aligns with disciplinary norms, the second does not.
Other Business:
1. The question of whether deans and chairs should be copied in the communication emails about revisions between the liaison and the faculty proposing the course was raised. The committee feels that it is easier and more informal if the communication just involves the liaison and the faculty member.
2. C. Vickery was elected as chair pro tem; election of new chair is scheduled for the February 2010 meeting.
3. E. Fernández distributed the handout attached, summarizing the workflow for proposing courses at Queens.
4. A UCC proposal for GEAC membership was presented (see below); discussion was tabled for Spring 2010.
