Teresa Perez

Teresa (Te) PerezTeresa (Te) Perez, a native New Yorker, has always been involved in some form of music, dance or theatre as a child and has formally been teaching dance/movement since the age of 17.  Te holds a BA in Theatre/Dance and certifications in Pilates, Gyrotonic, Yoga, Anatomy of movement (Irene Dowd), and Touch for Health.  She received her Simonson Modern jazz certification 11 years ago, became Simonson faculty at Dance Space (now known as Dance New Amsterdam) in 1999, and is now proudly teaching alongside Lynn Simonson with the Teacher’s Certification Course in New York City. 

Te has been a member of various independent companies in NYC such as Spoke the Hub Dance, Koshin Dance Theater, Yin Mei Dance Company, and Silver-Brown Dance Theater, among others.  She has also danced in works by David Storey, Lynn Simonson, Diane McCarthy, Jason McDole, and Katiti King.  In addition, Te has her own collection of choreographic works which she has presented in venues such as The Evolving Arts Theater, Galapagos Art Space, Williamsburg Arts Nexus, Joyce Soho, Kasser Theater at Montclair State and The Little Theater at Queens College. 

Presently, Te teaches on faculty at Dance New Amsterdam, Queens College, Hofstra University and at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.  As guest faculty, she has taught at Barnard College, Montclair State University, and the University of Tennessee.  Her international teaching credentials include master classes and workshops in Canada, Holland and Spain, and nationally in Texas, Montana, Connecticut, New Jersey and Tennessee.  Te’s choreographic commissions are for independent companies, universities, workshops and concerts. In addition, this summer she has been invited to teach and choreograph in Scotland, again in Spain, at The Bates Dance Festival in Maine, as well as, an annual Simonson workshop that she instructs in Quebec City.
