Department Scholarships, Prizes and Awards
Several scholarships, as well as a number of writing prizes for English majors and non-majors, are awarded each year. Information on the criteria for awards and scholarships and application deadlines is available in the English Department. The following prizes may be awarded:
- The Ayme Eichler Memorial Scholarship for poetry by an English major
- The Elizabeth Pines Ergas Prize for post-modern fiction
- The Neal Feld Memorial Writing Prize, to a junior English major, for excellence in writing fiction and/or poetry
- The Harry Glick Prize for short fiction
- The Robert Greenburg Memorial Prize for best performance by a student in the English Honors Program
- The Clinton Oliver Memorial Prize for the single best work – scholarly, critical, and/or creative – that relates to the African-American experience
- The Sue Shanker Scholarship for a gifted student, majoring in English, who has returned to college after a hiatus
- The Norman Silverstein and Ella Peiser Awards for excellence in English studies
- The Leo Statsky Award for an essay on the immigrant experience
- The Betty Zolot Scholarship in creative writing
- Composition Prizes for work done in English 110 and/or 120.
