Gallery
Talks
Popular gallery talks are designed to give visitors
an orientation and overview of an exhibition. Offered by the Museum
Director, artists, scholars and guest curators, talks provide insight
into various aspects of the exhibition as well as its overall theme.
Featured artists always appear in conjunction with
their exhibitions and talks are open and informal, with ample opportunity
for audience interaction and participation.

Lectures
and Symposia
Lectures and symposia on
topics related to each special exhibition are organized with presentations
by noted scholars, artists, and curators from Queens College, City
University of New York, and other New York City institutions.
Notable guest lecturers include curators from the Metropolitan,
Brooklyn, and Princeton University Museums of Art, as well as leading
contemporary artists and critics. Lectures most often are illustrated
with slides and are more formal than gallery talks, focusing
on historical or critical topics, with question and discussion
periods
following presentations. Symposia are often interdisciplinary and
thematic, and include scholars from different fields who present
papers on
various aspects of a special exhibition. Discussion sessions and
receptions in which guests can interact with participants follow
formal presentations. >

Film
Series
With the Annemarie Schwarzenbach exhibition,
the Museum inaugurated a film program, in which both documentary
and feature-length
films provide another medium and point of view related to an
artist’s biography, working process, artworks, and the
content and themes of an exhibition. An introduction and commentary
by critics and scholars of media studies often accompanies the
films. >

Workshops
Workshops led by artists,
educators, and other professionals are often held in collaboration
with departments and centers on campus, to allow hands-on experience
in art-making or analyzing processes for visitors of all ages.
Collaborations have included the Queens College
Departments of Art, Education, and Colden Center for the Performing
Arts. An on-going relationship with the Lincoln Center Institute
for Art in Education offers workshops for teachers on all levels
that include curriculum and activity materials. (See EDUCATION) >
