| F/J Students, Scholars and Dependents are
considered non-immigrants. This mean that they are permitted
to enter and stay in the U.S, only temporarily and are
required to return to their home country, upon completion
of their program. |
| Steps to Obtain the
F/J Visa/Immigration Status: |
| 1. |
Upon receiving the DS 2019, or I-20, you and/or your
dependents, will need to make an appointment at the U.S.
Consulate to apply for the F-1 Student Visa, F-2 Dependent
Visa, J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa and/or J-2 Dependent
Visa. |
| 2. |
Take a valid passport, I-20 or DS 2019, and the SEVIS
I-901 payment receipt to the U.S. Consulate to apply
for the F/J Visa. |
| 3. |
After receiving the F/J Visa, you are ready to enter
the U.S. |
| 4. |
Once you arrive at a U.S. Port of Entry via air, train
or car, you will be required to complete the U.S. Citizenship
and Immigration Service (USCIS) documents known as the
I-94 Departure Card (also known as the I-94 Number or
I-94 Admissions Card.) |
| 5. |
At the U.S. Port of Entry present the following documents:
passport, F/J Visa, I-20 or DS 2019 and
I-94 Card to the U.S. Citizenship and Naturalization Service (USCIS)
Officer. |

your passport, I-94, F/J Visa & I-20 or DS 2019 with
you. |
| 7. |
Once you report to ISSO, the USCIS Designated School
Official (DSO) will notify USCIS of your arrival at the
College and provide you with a Visa/Immigration and College
orientation. |
