Manhattan Research Library Initiative

The New York Public Library, Columbia University, and New York University are piloting a lending program for faculty and graduate students. CUNY faculty and graduate students are invited to apply for borrowing privileges from all three research libraries through June 2012. September 11 Media Collection

In commemoration of the tragic events of 9/11/2001, we highlight these media titles for your interest and use. You may borrow them from either our Media Center or Reserve Library by using your validated CUNY ID card. If a Reserve Loan is indicated, the DVD/VHS can be used for a three or four hour limit in the Media Center.

However, faculty may borrow Reserves DVD/VHS items for a 7 day period, unless the item is needed for student viewing. Unrestricted titles are allowed to be loaned for a seven day, home-use time period. There is a three item loan limit per patron.

Caught in the Crossfire: Arab Americans In Wartime
Examines the lives of three Arab Americans — a police officer, a Christian pastor, and a journalist—in New York City in the months since the terrorist attacks of September 2001 and how it personally affected them. (54 minutes, 2002.)

This is an international film composed of contributions from 11 different filmmakers, each from a different country. They give their own vision of the events in New York City on September 11, 2001 in a short film of 11 minutes, 9 seconds, and one frame. (135 minutes, 2002.)

Fahrenheit 9/11
American filmmaker and political commentator Michael Moore uses actual footage, interviews and declassified documents to illustrate the connections President George. W. Bush had to the royal house of Saud. Moore also investigates the presidency of George W. Bush, The War on Terror, and coverage in the news media. (122 minutes, 2004.)

House of Saud
Through interviews with members of the royal family, government officials, and other experts from Saudi Arabia, this documentary traces America's relations with the Saudi royal family from their first alliance in the 1930's through September 11 and beyond to the present day. (120 minutes, 2005.)

Meeting Osama Bin Laden
A biography of Osama Bin Laden, from his parents' humble origins through the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. Features interviews with those who have met him, including his grade school teacher, family friends, and journalists from the West and Middle East. (56 minutes, 2004)

Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West
Using unique footage from Arab television, Obsession is a film about the threat of radical Islam to Western Civilization. The programs reveal an “insider's view” of the hatred the radicals are teaching, their incitement of global jihad, and their goal of world domination. It also traces the parallels between the Nazi movement of World War II, the radicals of today, and the Western world's response to both threats. (60 minutes, 2006.)

United 93
Presents a fact-based story about the 40 passengers and crewmembers aboard San Francisco-bound flight United 93 on the morning of September 11, 2001. Intercuts mostly real time scenes of the flight and hijacking with the struggles of air-traffic controllers and U.S. military personnel to comprehend and deal with the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. E-book publisher ebrary put together a 9/11 Searchable Information Center collection, providing resources centered on the attack and its aftermath. Also of potential interest is the 9/11 Memorial Virtual Tour of the monument located at the site of the attack.
