Job Opportunities
The Department of Mathematics at Queens College, CUNY, invites
applications for two full-time positions at the rank of Lecturer in
Mathematics starting in the Spring 2010 semester. Applicants are
expected to hold a Master’s degree in mathematics or statistics,
possess excellent communications skills and demonstrate outstanding
teaching ability. The applicant must have at least two years of
teaching experience, including full responsibility for courses at
the level of calculus or above.
The duties of this position include teaching undergraduate courses
in mathematics, developing innovative methods of instruction,
serving on departmental and college committees and advising
students. A Lecturer must be committed to teaching a diverse body
of students and is not expected to carry out research in
mathematics. A Lecturer’s primary obligation is to provide quality,
inspiring instruction to students. This position requires 27 credit
hours of classroom teaching per year, with no released time for
research or administrative activities. Salaries for Lecturers range
from $40,435 to $66,431, commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Reappointment for a sixth year earns a Certificate of
Continuous Employment from CUNY.
