Biographical Information:
Arriving in New York in 1992 with just his bass and a suitcase, he quickly met many musicians, started to work a lot and a year later he recorded his first CD, co-led by Don Braden and featuring Cyrus Chestnut, Carl Allen and Tom Harrell. From that point everything really took of for Joris and he became a bassist in great demand and he has been working with the "who is who in Jazz" from Benny Golson to Randy Brecker to Rashied Ali. Joris now has recorded 8 albums as a leader. He also established himself as a composer, record producer (many different labels and artists), educator (director of Jazz Studies at the Hanze University) and bandleader. In 2004 Joris Teepe has been nominated for the Bird Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the category "Artist deserving wider recognition."

Joris is a member of the Rashied Ali Quintet since 2001. A selection of other performance credits: The Metropole Orchestra (directed by Bill Holman and Vince Mendoza), The Brooklyn Big Band, The Romanian Radio Orchestra, The North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra. Trumpeters Benny Bailey, Tom Harrell, Randy Brecker, Ingrid Jensen, Scott Wentholt, Valery Ponomarev, Brian Lynch, Jim Rotondi, Joe Magnarelli.  Saxophonists Abraham Burton, Chris Potter, Don Braden, Steve Wilson, Bob Mintzer, Eric Alexander, Benny Golson, Craig Handy, Eric Alexander, Joe Lovano, George Carzone, Seamus Blake and Donny McCaslin.  Pianists James Williams, George Cables, Mulgrew Miller, Mike LeDonne, David Hazeltine, George Colligan, Kenny Werner, Kevin Hays, Renee Rosnes, David Berkman.  Drummers Rashied Ali, Billy Hart, Billy Drummond, Carl Allen, Matt Wilson, Ralph Peterson, Gene Jackson, Winard Harper, Adam Nussbaum, Bill Goodwin. Guitarists Peter Bernstein, Mike Stern, Randy Johnston, Russell Malone, Paul Bollenback, John Abercrombie and Ron Affif.   Furthermore with trombonists Frank Lacy, Slide Hampton, Conrad Herwig and Steve Davis; Vibes player Joe Locke and Vocalists Andy Bey, Dena DeRose and Deborah Brown.

Recently Joris Teepe has been writing for large ensembles. He wrote an extensive repertoire for Big Band and for Nonet, and several larger pieces for Jazz Quartet and Symphony Orchestra.
