Biographical Information:
Since arriving in New York City, Vince has been developing, performing and touring in a variety of musical settings around the world. As a drummer, Vince has been fortunate to perform with the masters of Afro-Cuban drumming including: Ray Barretto, Roberto Borrell, Candido, Milton Cardona, Giovanni Hidalgo, Nicky Marrero, Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria and Carlos "Patato" Valdez. Vince is currently a member of the band: Ray Barretto and New World Spirit, and can be heard on "My Summertime" on Owl Records, "Contact" on Blue Note Records, "Portraits of Jazz and Clave" on RCA and "Trancedance" on Circular Moves label. Other recent recordings include trumpeter Ray Vega's CD's: "Ray Vega" and "Boperation", both on Concord Records; trombonist Chris Washburne and SYOTOS' CD's: "Nuyorican Nights" and "The Other Side", both on Jazzheads Records; pianist / composer Joseph Diamond on "Not Your Typical New Yorker" and "Island Garden", both on Basileus Records; vibraphonist Bill Ware on "Vibes Four" on Knitting Factory Records and percussionist Steve Kroon's new CD "Senor Kroon" on Azica Records.
Recently, Vince has had the opportunity to record and perform in the company of Eric Alexander, Bruce Barth, Randy Brecker, Ray Bryant, Kenny Burrell, Paquito D'Rivera, Eddie Gomez, Israel "Cachao" Lopez, Joe Lovano, Brian Lynch, Tina May, James Moody, Valerie Dee Naranjo, Eddie Palmieri, Los Papines de Cuba, Hilton Ruiz, Dave Samuels, Don Sickler, Steve Turre, Dave Valentin and Bernard Woma. Vince also performs and tours with The Caribbean Jazz Project, The Paquito D'Rivera Quintet, Angela Bofill and The Bill Ware Trio. In New York City, he has performed and subbed with the big bands of Chico O'Farrill's Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Gary Morgan's PanAmerican Orchestra and The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Vince has been featured three times with the NDR Big Band in Hamburg, Germany and performed with the competition band for the 2000 Thelonius Monk Jazz Instrumental Competition in Wash., DC. Vince has appeared in several European concert films and documentaries with Ray Barretto and Paquito D'Rivera as well as on BET Jazz TV with Warner's Jazz vocalist, Gabriela Anders and Knitting Factory artist, vibraphonist Bill Ware.
As an instructor, Vince is currently on the faculty of the Drummers Collective and as an adjunct teacher at Queens College and the NYU Jazz Studies Program in New York City. Vince has given clinics in Europe, at the Thelonius Monk Jazz Aspen Summer Camp, at the NYU Jazz Program and at Drummers Collective.
