The Institute for 17th Century Music at Queens College will offer a one-week, intensive training program in Baroque opera. Areas of focus will include: Baroque vocal and instrumental technique, ornamentation based on 16th and 17th century sources, Baroque gesture and dance, and improvised accompaniment for players of basso continuo, all derived from period sources and repertoire. The week’s work will culminate in a performance of 17th century opera scenes staged with full continuo and strings.
In addition to regular sessions with Ms. Baird, special lectures and masterclasses will be given by key figures of today’s Baroque performance world allowing participants further opportunities to hone their skills in this specialized field.
Tuition:
Singers: $650*
Strings and continuo instruments $550*
Auditors: $60 per day
On-Campus Housing: $330
(plus $15 per day mandatory meal plan)
