Dear Vice Chancellor Malone:

I would like to request that you approve offering a salary of $65,388, the second longevity step, to Dr. John Doe whom we would like to appoint as Assistant Professor in our Department of Economics.  Dr. Doe has a doctoral degree in finance and economics.  Such expertise is needed for our new BBA program and is in great demand, necessitating higher salaries.
