Dear Vice Chancellor Malone:

I am writing to request a two-step salary increment in Associate Professor John Doe’s salary, effective September 1, 2004.  Professor Doe, of the Bicyling Department, has received an offer from DEFG University and the College wishes to retain him.  His current salary is $49,3760 and the requested increase would bring it to $53,455.

I enclose a copy of his curriculum vitae and the offer letter from DEFG University.
