The University has again requested an annual report on the scholarship and creative work of our faculty during the previous year, calendar 2007. It is important that we present to the University an accurate and complete picture of all the work our faculty are doing to advance the state of knowledge in their respective fields. All department chairs should ask all their full-time faculty in their department to report on their scholarship by April 11.
Faculty can provide these reports in two ways:
1. Faculty member can enter their scholarly information directly into the University’s database. The instructions for doing so are as follows:
To access the web site for reporting or viewing Faculty Scholarship/Creative Activity information, users must first log in to the CUNY portal at www.cuny.edu . The log in button appears in the bottom of the orange margin at the left. Clicking on the log in button brings users to the portal log in page. Users should log in with their portal username and password. Users must be registered as faculty or staff to get access to the Faculty Scholarship/Creative Activity web site. Instructions for registering for a CUNY portal account are available on the screen for those who are not already registered.
Once successfully logged in to the CUNY portal, users will see a link on their My Page screen for Full-Time Faculty 2007 Scholarship and Creative Activity in the “SSO Applications for Faculty and Staff” section. Click on this link to go to the log in page for the Faculty Scholarship/Creative Activity collection form. Log in with the common username FACULTY and the password CUNY2008.
Successful log in will bring you to the collection form screen for entering 2007 scholarship/creative activity information. Follow the on-screen instructions. Use the navigation buttons to switch between the entry form and the view/edit page as needed.
For technical assistance with the Faculty Scholarship and Creative Activity collection process, please contact Cheryl Littman in the Central Office of Institutional Research and Assessment by phone (212-541-0355) or e-mail (cheryl.littman@mail.cuny.edu).
2) Alternatively, individual faculty members can provide a list of their scholarly or creative work to their department chair. Each item on the list should include complete citation/reference information, including all author names in the order in which they appear in the work, and the type of work (book, authored; book, edited; article, peer-reviewed; article, other; chapter; creative work; presentation; other type of work). Department chairs should collect these lists and forward them to their dean by April 18. If at all possible, please provide these lists electronically as Word or Excel files. Deans will provide each department's list as it is received to the provost's office.
From the University instructions:
Scholarship/creative activity produced by all types of full-time faculty, including full-time administrators on leave from faculty positions, should be reported here.
For each piece of work that was first published with a 2007 publication date or first performed in 2007, create a separate record by filling out the form below.
Do include (examples):
- Each lasting piece of scholarship/creative activity that has been judged by peers as advancing the field (e.g., a refereed journal/magazine/newspaper article)
- A book published by a university press
- A painting in a juried show
- Direction of a play that has received an external review
Do not include (examples):
- Conference presentations (unless published as proceedings)
- Grants or grant proposals
- Book contracts
- Works submitted/accepted/in press
- Republished/reprinted works
- Service as a reviewer/editor/consultant
- Works whose main criterion for publishing/performance is a payment made by the faculty member on his/her behalf
- Workshops conducted, courses/programs taught/developed
- Awards
Although these are important, the present database is limited to the types of works in the previous set of bullets.
