Re:	Policy on substitute and acting appointments

The University has recently issued these policy guidelines regarding substitute appointments. The exact effect of these guidelines is not yet clear. The guidelines apply to CLT, ECP, Research Assistant/Associate, and HEO appointments. Classified Civil Service appointments are governed by existing policies and do not change. However, we hope the policy will be less strict for substitute faculty appointments so we can maintain some flexibility for last-minute appointments. It also appears that substitute appointments may be extended by an additional semester for a total of 5 semesters, assuming a documented search is under way. Feel free to use this preliminary information in your hiring plans. Any additional clarifications that may be provided will be shared with you as soon as possible. Thank you.
