Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s greatest writers. She is a recipient of the Orange Broadband Prize, the O’Henry Prize, and the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, and is the author of the novels Purple Hibiscus and Half of a Yellow Sun, as well as the collection of stories The Thing Around Your Neck. Vanity Fair has said: “The stories in The Thing Around Your Neck are so exquisite they grab you by the throat and stop your heart.” The Minneapolis Star Tribune has said: “A fiction writer’s job is to create a world so detailed, evocative and emotionally true that, like Alice, you fall into it. Adichie does exactly that…Amazing.” The Christian Science Monitor has said: “Adichie gives us what a first-rate writer should: a keen yet poignant view of the contradictions of the human condition…deftly assembled, powerful.” Joyce Carol Oates has said: “Vividly written, thrumming with life, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Half of a Yellow Sun is a remarkable novel. In its compassionate intelligence, as in its capacity for intimate portraiture, this novel is a worthy successor to such twentieth-century classics as Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart and V.S. Naipaul’s A Bend in the River.” The Tucson Citizen has said of the work of Ms. Adichie: “Prose this skillful deserves international acclaim. Insightful, powerful and brimming with characters that seem to leap from the printed page…nothing less than a literary feast.”
In addition to reading from her work, Ms. Adichie will be interviewed by Leonard Lopate.
