Becoming a Tutor
If you are
interested in becoming either an in-person or online tutor for the
1. You should be at least a Sophmore in standing and have a GPA of at least 2.75.
2. You should be prepared to work at least three hours a week at the office or online.
3. You should have a strong knowledge of written and spoken English.
4. You should be patient and work well with all sorts of people.
NOTE: In addition to the above requirements, beginning in the Fall 2005 semester, prospective tutors are required to have completed or be enrolled in English 398 (when offered).
When you come in, you will be given a simple application to fill out. You will be asked to provide a copy of a brief writing sample, and two recommendations from faculty. You will also be asked to take a proofreading test.
If your schedule meets our needs, you will be called in for training sessions. You will be paid for those sessions, as well as for staff meetings, and any other time you spend in Writing Center-related activities.
