Richard Pisciotta – Academic Support Coordinator
Rich has been an instructor and lecturer for the Writing Center and Academic Support Department since 1993. He is the co-creator (with Tom D'Angelo and Barbara Emanuele) of the Writing Center website and e-tutoring program, as well as a student/staff advisor and instructor for the CUNY WriteSite, an interactive online writing lab.  Working with Anita Podrid, the director of the Academic Support Lab, he has been involved with designing and teaching prep courses for the CUNY Proficiency Exam. In addition to his role as instructor, Rich serves as the Assistant Chief Reader for the CUNY Writing Test; he also trains new CWT readers for the CUNY central office.

Barbara K. Emanuele -- Instructor
Currently a graduate student at QC, Barbara is also an instructor/lecturer for the Writing Center/Academic Support. Her literary interests include: The Arthurian Tradition, Shakespeare, the English Romantic writers, Nineteenth century American women writers, the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, James Joyce, William Faulkner, Sylvia Plath, and Nick Bantok. She is also a devotee of the ballet, of musicals, classic movies, "The X-Files," and media criticism.

Faigy Abdelhak – Tutor

A junior at QC, Faigy is majoring in Sociology, with a minor in Journalism.  As a journalist interested in social justice, she hopes to raise awareness of social issues through the articles she writes.  In her spare time, She enjoys reading, art, and watching movies.

 

Daniella Adler – Tutor

The current Culture Editor of the Knight News, Daniella has joined the Writing Center staff this semester.  She’s a junior at QC, thinking about majoring in English.  Her interests include reading, writing, and skiing.

 

Christina Audi – Tutor

Christina is a senior majoring in English, with a minor in Secondary Education and plans on becoming a NTC high school teacher.  She writes memoirs and poetry, often reading the latter at the Bowery Poetry Club.  Because of her passion for creative writing, she is always pursuing ways to make writing more enjoyable for her students.

 

Emily Berliner – Tutor

Emily is a junior at QC majoring in English and minoring in Business and Liberal Arts (BALA).  She’s been a tutor at the Writing Center since Fall 2007 and looks forward to working with new students.

 

Gabriel Bruno – Instructor/Tutor/E-Tutor

Gabriel received a BA in English in June of 1999, but has yet to decide what he wants to be when he grows up (being decidedly not of traditional college age). His interests include music, sports, and books. Favorite singer: Sara McLachlan (Sigh!). Favorite Song: "How Can I Tell You," by Cat Stevens (Sigh! . . .the song and the singer). Favorite team: the Mets.  Favorite book: Tin Drum, by Gunter Grass.

 

Brigitta Csoma – Tutor

Although she has tutored for the Academic Support Lab, Brigitta is new to our staff this semester.  She’s an English/Elementary Ed. Major who enjoys reading and hiking as well as working with students.

 

Alexandra Elbaum – Tutor

This is Alex’s second semester at the Writing Center; she’s a junior here at QC majoring in English and Philosophy. She is also currently the Vice President of the Legal Society for Minority Students on campus and a mentor for the Freshman Year Initiative.  Upon graduation, she hopes to attend law school or work toward a PhD in Literature—or both! Her favorite contemporary authors include Neil Gaiman and William Gibson

 

Kelly Krutz – Tutor /E-Tutor

Kelly, an English major, expects to graduate in 2009. She’s currently a staff writer and copy editor for the Knight News and was a contributing writer to the literary magazine 72nd Ave. Kelly plans to pursue a career in publishing.  Her favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut and her favorite book is Vonnegut’s classic Slaughterhouse Five.

 

Shelly Leung – Tutor

Shelly is an English and Finance major juggling the task of learning Latin, Japanese, and Korean at one time—simply for the sake of reading texts in their original language.  She has been known to read anything, in fact, including the nutritional facts on cereal bars.  Her favorite author is Virginia Woolf.

Patricia Wu - Tutor

Patricia’s a junior at QC majoring in English and minoring in Sociology.  In her spare time, Patricia likes to read novels, write fiction, and draw.  She plans to attend graduate school and one day become an editor.
