The Investigative Science Symposium/Fair
[ISS/Fair] for Spring 2005 is celebrating its fifth year as a
collaborative effort by a Committee of Queens College and Queens High
Schools.
Con Edison of New York is again a
principal sponsor.
The ISS/Fair for Spring 2005 is at Queens
College on May 12, 2005:

is designed to promote the practice of scientific
investigations as part of science teaching and learning |
|
encourages real investigative science projects of 9th and
10th grade Queens High School students |
|
supports student projects which are are
standards-based and are expected to be small-scale but real
'Hands-on, Minds-on' investigations and to take about 3 to 6 weeks |

Not intended to be 'Intel-level' science projects.

Teacher Committees at each participating Queens High School
choosing to participate:

will structure an ISS/Fair at their schools
[See Schedule & General Criteria, Page
2] |
|
will select from each school up to 3 student finalist projects [no more
than two students per project] judged to have 'exceeded
standards' |
School Student Finalists:
| |
Are invited to the ISS/Fair 2005 at Queens College, Thurs., May 12,
2005 |
| |
Will submit a Detailed Project Abstract |
| |
Will display a summary of their work |
|
Will be offered a Tour of selected Queens College Research
Laboratories
|
|
Will be invited to attend the ISS/Fair 2005 Awards Luncheon.
|
|
ALL student participants to Queens College on May 12th will receive
an ISS/Fair 2005 Certificate of Excellence honoring their
investigative work. A small number of students will be awarded the
opportunity for future research with Queens College sponsored research
mentors or be awarded a place in the Queens College Summer Science
Camp. |
