Student Retention Programs
Mission Statement

The mission of Student Retention Programs is to support the whole student in maximizing their experience and success at the college. We believe that participation both in and out of the classroom is indispensable in enhancing intellectual development and fostering student progress. Our ultimate goal is to assist students in obtaining their degree while empowering them to become productive members of the Queens College community and the larger, global society.

What Do They Do?

In an effort to increase student retention, the Office of Student Life and Retention Programs work in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs and other campus programs to help students connect with the College and successfully complete their studies. Special attention is given to first semester students to help smooth their transition to college life.

About the CLIQ Program

College Life Introduction at Queens (CLIQ) is an innovative program coordinated by the Student Retention Programs that introduces new students to life outside the classroom. CLIQ fosters intellectual, social and personal growth by having students participate in various campus events.

Because involvement in activities is an indispensable aspect of college life, new students are expected to attend six out of classroom events such as the Introduction to College Life program, career/major forums, library tours, etc. CLIQ events are available throughout the day, evening and weekend.

The campus Knight News, monthly calendar of events and the CLIQ Events Calendar will list upcoming CLIQ activities.

Who Must Complete CLIQ?

All Queens College freshman and transfer students with less than 25 transfer credits must complete the CLIQ program by the time they have attempted 24 credits at Queens College. In most cases this would be by the end of their first year at Queens College.

Is CLIQ Mandatory?

Yes, CLIQ is mandatory for all Queens College freshmen and transfer students with less than 25 transfer credits.
