1958: Spring ended eventfully for ceramic artist Susan Duhan Felix, now based in Berkeley, CA. On June 14 a show of her art opened at the Hebrew Union College Museum. Two days later, she and Morton Felix (’56), who met at QC, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. And on June 21, the couple read their poetry at Cornelia Street Cafe. “I fell in love with Morton’s poetry in Counterpoint before I met him,” says Susan, noting that her husband has had four books of poems and a novel published and several plays produced. : Judith Goldberg Berger was inducted into the Dade County Music Educators Hall of Fame in recognition of her service to the Miami-Dade Public School System as a keyboard educator and keyboard supervisor. Judie retired in 2004, but continues to teach music in other venues in Miami ..... 1963: Barbara J. Goldstein, formerly Barbara Joan Mintz (MA ’69), co-authored Beyond Tears: Living After the Death of A Child (St. Martin’s Press, 2005). Barbara and her nine collaborators all lost a child who was in his or her teens or 20s. Navia has published his twenty-first book, Socrates: A Life Examined ..... 1965: Anita Haney, college librarian for the humanities for University Libraries at Virginia Tech, was named assistant professor emerita by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors. A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1969, Haney worked closely with faculty in English, history, philosophy, religion, theatre arts, and in French, German, and Spanish languages and literature to build and maintain strong library collections. She also led many general information skills sessions, helping hundreds of students to remain information literate ..... Ron Pollack is executive director of Families USA, an organization that lobbies for national health care. Before joining the group in 1982, he ran the Food Research and Action Center, which urged the government to provide food stamp coverage and school meals for needy children ..... 1967: Marion Meyers (MLS) went to Queretaro, Mexico, for two weeks in February as part of a Global Volunteers team that taught conversational English to students at the Technological University of Queretaro. Global Volunteers, a nonprofit organization based in St. Paul, has offered short-term service programs throughout the world since 1984 ..... 1968: Noel Hankin has been elected chairman of the New York chapter of the Urban League. 1970: Rick Gentile, an Emmy-award-winning sports broadcaster and former CBS Sports executive producer, has been appointed to the sports advisory board of Lonestar Group Holdings ..... 1971: Kenn Gartner reports that he enjoyed a long career after earning his master’s at QC. He became the first New York City teacher to play in Town Hall, got more students into the All State Choruses than any other teacher in the state, and helped his schools’ ensembles win the highest possible ratings in annual adjudication festivals held by the New York State School Music Association. Now he lives in California, where he continues to teach and perform ..... 1972: Abraham B. Krieger has become a member of the Long Island law firm of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. A Hofstra University Law School graduate, Abraham is active in the New York State Bar Association and the Nassau County Bar Association. Berry has been appointed vice chair of the City University of New York’s Board of Trustees. A vice president and corporate officer at Colgate-Palmolive, Philip has been a CUNY trustee since June 2006 . . . Patricia M. Cannon has just completed E-Mails from Home, a nonfiction book based on emails she and her eldest son wrote to each other while he attended college. Patricia and husband Christopher L. Cannon ’68 have three children. E-Mails from Home is simultaneously the story of an 18-year-old boy entering life on his own, and the story of a mom coping with illness, aging parents, and the empty-nest syndrome. Rosenhaus (MA ’80) has been commissioned to compose The Etude Project, a series of graded performance studies for various chamber music ensembles, for the U.S. Navy School of Music (SOM). Caroline Steif Werth has been named president and chief executive officer of the Fort Mason Center, a cultural and educational complex in San Francisco. For the last six years, Caroline led her own arts consulting firm. Marc, executive vice president of AIG Retirement Services, is a longtime board member of Bet Tzedek, which provides free legal services to low-income Los Angeles county residents . . . Leonard Gomella, Bernard Godwin Professor of Prostate Cancer and Chair of Urology at Thomas Jefferson University and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, was named to Men’s Health magazine’s list “America’s Top Doctors for Men.” In a special annual report that debuted in April 2007, the magazine cited Leonard as one of the nation’s top 20 urologists, based on surveys from physicians and medical leadership of top hospitals. Hizzoner is a leading fund-raiser for Democratic congressional and senatorial candidates throughout the United States, including Senators Hillary Clinton, Edward Kennedy, and many others. A partner in the immigration law firm of Wildes & Weinberg, and a former federal prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn (1989–1993), Michael has testified on Capitol Hill in connection with antiterrorism legislation.
