Women and Work

Women and Work (W&W) is a free 15-week job- and life-skills training program offered through Queens College, CUNY. Initiated in 1998, the program operates as a “Partnership for Empowerment” accepting applicants with modest educational backgrounds and little or erratic work experience. They are the most underserved population comprised of immigrants, victims of domestic and family violence, displaced homemakers, and women whose lives have been directly or indirectly affected by the post-9/11 economy. Reaching across all races, ethnicities, ages, religions, and sexualities, the program is designed to meet the needs of women who need to work, but lack the requisite social, academic, and technological skills. Women and Work provides the necessary tools to secure sustainable employment and financial independence. The program’s three main focus areas include: computer and technology skills; literacy and humanities skills; and job readiness and retention.
