Murphy Halliburton is Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology. He earned his Ph.D. in anthropology at the CUNY Graduate Center in 2000, and his areas of focus are medical anthropology, anthropology of science and the history and cultures of South Asia. Prof. Halliburton has conducted research on forms of treatment for mental illnesses used in India, including the psychiatric treatment of India¡¦s ayurvedic medical system. He is currently undertaking a study of how new, World Trade Organization-mandated intellectual property laws affect medical innovation and access to essential medicines in India and elsewhere in the world.
