I was born in San Diego, and moved to Iowa when I was just starting high school. So I split my formative years between Southern California and the Midwest. After college, I found myself transplanted and growing new roots here in east coast soil. So I seem to be drawn east: west coast, Midwest, and now east coast. Where to, next? Who knows. For now at least, my roots here go deep and I consider Queens my home.

I received a Bachelors Degree from Iowa State University in 1988, in Business Administration. My first career was in hospital administration, and I worked for a major cancer center in Manhattan for 17 years before realizing I was drawn to the world of academia. Shortly after that awakening - which looks far better in hindsight and on paper than it did while I was in the midst of upheaval and uncertainty! - I enrolled at Queens College in the post-baccalaureate Secondary Education Mathematics program. I will be certified as a high school math teacher by NYS/NYC next year. (My 14-year-old daughter still worries that I might end up in her classroom!) In the meantime I am having lots of fun working in a job and with people that I truly enjoy.
