Assignment 9 - Review and Presentation of a Science Kit

Instructions for Assignment 9

This assignment is intended to give you valuable experience in evaluating, adapting, and using commercial science kits in the classroom. Form and small group of 2 to 3 students and select a kit to evaluate.  You should sign a kit out at least two weeks before your presentation.  

Answer the following questions in your evaluation:

1)  Please provide the following information on your kit:
   a) price,
   b) where it can be purchased, w
   c) who produced the kit,
   d) when was it produced,
   e) and the title of the kit.
   f)  science subjects and grade levels where this could be used
2)  What are the goals of the kit?   What science knowledge and skills will students learn?
3)  What are the strengths of the kit?
4)  What are the weaknesses of the kit?
5)  Would you recommend that science teachers purchase this kit?  Why or why not?
6)  How could the kit be modified to make it more effective?
7)  What are some ways you could use this in your subject area?  Be as specific as possible.  
8)  Any other comments.

Each group should present their review to the class.  During the review, please let the class try out some activities from the kit.
