Secondary Science Education Graduate Initial Certificate Concentration Form *
Requirements to apply to the program: Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (baccalaureate or latest degree), and have a major in a traditional science or have at least 21 credits in one traditional science discipline. The balance of the science credits required for NYSED certification (36 credits, total, with a minimum of 30 credits of the 36 credits in one science) must be taken before a candidate is approved for certification. A minimum grade of B is required in each course to continue in the certification program.

* In 2010, New York State mandated that all initial certificate programs must have a course on teaching children with disabilities. A three credit course will be added to the graduate program and beginning fall 2011, graduate students accepted to the initial certificate program will fall under the new NYSED certification guidelines.
