The final exam
The date and time for the final exam depends on which section of math 131 you are enrolled in. As a reminder, Section 09 meets from 5:00-6:15 and Section 10 meets from 6:30-7:45.
- Final Exam for Section 09: Thursday, May 25 from 4:00-6:00pm
- Final Exam for Section 10: Tuesday, May 23 from 6:15-8:15pm
As indicated on the syllabus, there will be one more exam before the final exam. That exam is on Tuesday, May 16. Also, I miscounted the number of exams that were scheduled. So, I'll be dropping the three lowest exams scores to determine course grades. I've updated the syllabus to include the final exam times and to say that I'll be dropping three exam scores.
Homework for the weekend
For homework, read section 3.2. Carefully study the examples and then do the following exercises:
- Section 3.2: exercises 1-9, 13, 15, 35, 39, 43, 47, 49, 51
Exam 7 on Thursday
As a reminder, there is an exam on Thursday, May 4. It will cover sections 3.1 and the concept of concavity. In addition to the homework already assigned from section 3.1, be sure to read the beginning of section 3.2, through example 3.2.3.

For homework, read section 3.1. Carefully study the examples and then do the following exercises:

Homework for Spring break
Read through section 2.5 in the text. Learn the definitions of marginal revenue and marginal cost. In addition to working carefully through the examples, do the following exercises:

Reminder: The next class is Tuesday, April 25th. As indicated on the syllabus, the next exam will be on Thursday, April 27. It will cover marginal analysis.

Here is some homework for the weekend. There are a lot of exercises to do, but learning the techniques of differentiation well requires practice:
- Read section 2.2 and do exercises 1-53 odd
- Read section 2.3 and do exercises 9

Exam and Homework
There will be an exam on limits and the derivative on Thursday, March 9. Be familiar with the material in sections 1.5, 1.6, and 2.1. The format of the exam will be similar to previous exams, but a little shorter.
In addition to reading section 2.1, learning the definition of the derivative, and studying the examples, do exercises 5, 6, 15, 17, 18, 19 at the end of the section 2.1.
Homework 5
Here's some homework for the weekend.
- Read and study section 2.1. Pay attention to the definition of the derivative. Work through the examples carefully and do exercises 5 and 15 at the end of the section.
Remember, there's an exam on Thursday, March 9. The new material that it will cover is section 1.6 (one sided limits and infinite limits) and section 2.1, the definition of the derivative.
Homework 4
For Thursday, carefully read sections 1.5 and 1.6. Study the examples. As a test of your understanding do:
- Section 1.5 exercises 17, 21, 23, 27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37
- Section 1.6. Study examples 1.6.1, 1.6.2, 1.6.3, 1.6.6 exercises 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 13, 15, 23, 25, 27, 47, 49
Remember, there's an exam on Thursday, March 2.
Second Exam Rescheduled for Thursday, March 2
The second exam will be in class on Thursday, March 2. It was originally scheduled for February 28. The syllabus has been updated.
The exam will cover Limits, that's section 1.5 in the book.
Homework 3
For Thursday, carefully read section 1.5. Study the examples. As a test of your understanding do:
- Section 1.5 exercise 3 and exercise 19
Remember, there's no class on Tuesday, February 21.
Class cancelled on Tuesday, February 21
Please be aware that we will not have class on Tuesday, February 21. This is noted on the syllabus as well.
Exam rescheduled
As indicated on the Queens College alert page www.qc.cuny.edu/alert, the college will be closed on Thursday, February 8.
The first exam is rescheduled for in class on Tuesday, February 14. The syllabus has been updated.
Homework 3
Remember, the first exam will be in class on Thursday, February 9. It will cover the pre-requisite material. That's sections 1.1-1.4. In addition to previously assigned exercises, here are a few good problems from the chapter 1 summary, which begins on page 91:

- Read section 1.4 in the text and work through the examples in the reading carefully.
