Art Nouveau was largely graphic, and leant itself to poster design. Toulouse-Lautrec's posters are very closely related and highly influential to Art Nouveau.

Aubrey Beardsley was highly influential Art Nouveau artist. His work was immensely elaborate and decorative. His work has greatly influenced posters and illustrations created around the time. Salome With the Head of John the Baptist (1893, India ink and watercolor) was an illustration of Oscar Wilde's poem Salome.

Another Highly influential artist in the Art Nouveau movement was Henry van de Velde. He was well known for abstract compositions in typical Art Nouveau style. Unlike Beardsley, van de Velde used color, and was well-versed in both the scientific theory of color and perception, and the more expressive/symbolic use of colors of Gauguin and other artists. This piece, Tropon, was an advertising poster.
